Letter sweaters, first introduced by the Harvard Baseball team over 150 years ago, opened the door to the Letterman tradition throughout high school and college sports, eventually giving way to Letterman jackets later in the 20th century.

Typically the first letter of the school’s name would be sewn on to a ‘Letterman’ jacket, to signify the wearer’s achievements. With the letter came some rules though; if you were a good enough player, you were allowed to keep your jersey and the letter, but if you rode the bench all year you were forced to return your jersey at the end of the season, thus adding to the competitive allure of the letters.

Over the following decades, other schools across the nation started pulling out their own version of the Letterman Jacket. Each team did things a little different like changing the size or font of the letter, moving around its placement, and ultimately shifting the style little by little so that by the early twentieth century the letter had arrived at it’s permanent place on the side of the sweater.

While the tradition isn’t what it once was, the aesthetic lives on and we captured it in our Letterman Hoodie. Featuring a custom blackletter felt appliqué 'J', knit striped ribbing, and contrast serge stitching throughout the body.

The Letterman Hoodie features a 400gsm custom milled cotton body, double folded side gusset ribbing, flatlock stitched seams, and the classic Jiberish fit.

Details include a custom black lettered felt appliqué 'J', knit striped ribbing, contrast serger stitching, 3-panel hood, and kangaroo pocket.
